A Scientific Approach to the Paranormal
Environmental Monitoring and Ghost Hunting PDF Print E-mail

Many of us in the field of paranormal investigations love all of the gizmo's that we acquire to help us in our endeavor. If you are like me the more gadgets the better. Our group takes a much focused scientific approach to paranormal investigations and the acquisition of data requires some very expensive and highly technical instrumentation. Even though most of the instruments we use in the investigation were developed for purposes other than ghost hunting we have adapted the instruments to serve us in the field.

One piece of equipment we use is the IR thermometer with an ambient air K type probe attached. This gives us the capability of not only reading temperatures of objects but also the temperature of the surrounding air. The theory is that as an entity tries to manifest itself, it draws in energy from the surrounding environment as well as you, the batteries in the equipment you are carrying, and anyplace that has energy, its drawing on it. This type of activity can cause cold spots, breezes, sounds, smells, etc. that we notice during the investigation.
Carrying around all of the equipment that we think we need for an investigation can become a little burdensome to say the least, so any new technology that allows us to capture data, and is compact is a welcome addition to any equipment bag, that is where Lascar Electronics comes in. These guys produce a little gadget that is used to collect environmental data (temperature, humidity and dew-point) and then plot it in graph form so we can look at any environmental anomalies during an investigation. We at TSS have implemented the use of Lascar’s EL-USB-2, the data-logger that records Temperature, Humidity and Dew-point throughout the investigation, we place one in each of the rooms at the beginning of the investigation and pull it at the end, this way we have a record of the environmental changes that occur during the investigation and are able to make correlations between the environmental changes and the activity in the area we are investigating.
We are also in the process of testing the EL-USB-RT real-time data-logger that plugs into a laptop and puts out real-time Temperature, Humidity and Dew-point data. We will be using this in conjunction with our Mini-Box testing, hoping to find correlations between EMF, EVP, Temperature, Humidity, and Dew-point, photographic and video data.
If you have any comments or questions on what we are doing or where to get these little jewels, let me know. By the way, these little guys are cheaper than an IR Thermometer and come with software.
