EMF Meters:
One of the primary instruments that we use in the field is the EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) meter. Other than the discussions I have with other groups on the validity of orbs are the ones I have with them on the use of EMF meters. For the most part, the use of an EMF meter as a ghost detector is complete and total CRAP! That is with all caps to make a point. If you really want to get good information on EMF you need to get a book called Electromagnetics Explained by Ron Schmitt, if you can digest this information and come up with a plausible theory for using EMF meters as ghost detectors, I would love to hear it. The EPA also puts out a book on the effects of EMF on the human body; this is another good read and explains why we use EMF meters as a debunking instrument. There are some cases where there are fields that cannot be explained but I highly doubt that it is a ghost hovering about.
Currently we use the Alpha Lab Trifled meter, Extech EMF meters and a modified version of the KII. The instruments are mainly used to find explanations for the paranormal activity at a location that can be explained as the influence of EMF on the person experiencing the activity. Some people can be hypersensitive to EMF causing rashes, headaches, and can even cause hallucinations. This has been seen on a number of our cases where high EMF caused a client to see a man in her home.
So remember, if anyone try's to sell you an EMF as a ghost meter, don't buy the snake oil, sell him that piece of beach front property you have in central Alberta.
As far as the Geiger counter goes, I still have found very little use for it as most of the ghosts I chase don't live at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant; if they are radioactive I don't want to be around them.
