Thermometers & Temperature Data Loggers:
The most popular devices out there is the IR thermal scanner. It is a temperature measuring device which works by sending out a thermal beam and measuring the emissivity of a surface. This is to check for or verify unusual cold or hot spots in a room. So back to the EMF meters, this device also is a load of guano unless you have the K type probe attachment to measure ambient air temperature. I have seen many a time when an investigator notices a cold spot in a warm room and it turns out the investigator is pointing it at a window where the outside air temperature is 32 degrees.
We use two types of thermometers in the field, the Fisher Scientific pistol type with a k-type probe attachment and the new Lascar Electronics Temp., Humidity and dew point data loggers, both programmable and real time to log this environmental data. The theory, and yes this one is a theory, is that an entity or spirit will draw on energy from the environment and will cause a reduction in temperature; I call this a (ghost-wake), as the area you are really looking for is a warmer spot in the room where the energy is being drawn. The data loggers are a great little tool; they have a pocket clip and can either be attached to the investigator or placed in the center of a small room for data collection. The data can be reviewed in graph form following the investigation to reveal any temperature anomalies.
